I commonly get requests from clients to help downsize their homes because they’re ready for their next chapter. This is an exciting time in people’s lives. You’re getting to or are at a point in your life where you’ve worked hard in your career and possibly raised a family, and now it’s time to place the focus and attention on you and what you want out of the life you’ve earned.

Why is Choosing the Right Neighbourhood So Important?

Choosing the neighbourhood and lifestyle you want has so many variables to consider. With all of the options available, it’s really important to identify what’s important to you: Do you want to be part of a community? Is a neighbourhood with older adults and fewer families what you’re looking for? Do you prefer to live closer to your adult kids and grandchildren? Maybe you’re looking for an active lifestyle community with other retirees. Do you need transit or want to be in a walkable community? Do you have a medical condition(s) where being close to doctors and specialists is a priority? Are you social, and are these activities easy for you to access? As you can see, there are many things to consider when making this decision.

Guildwood aka The Guild

Guildwood, also called “The Guild” is a mix of single-family homes, bungalows, condos, and townhomes. It offers a sense of community and has terrific greenspaces. Love to golf?  Then, the Scarboro Golf & Country Club might be enough incentive to live in the community. Do you enjoy spectacular views of Lake Ontario? Try walking the Doris McCarthy Trails at the end of Sylvan Ave after your dinner with your family.  Maybe volunteering is your thing. There are very active volunteer-based community groups, such as the Guildwood Village Community Association, that organize and host community activities such as festivals and community events; they even organize a senior walking group. You can’t go wrong with choosing to live in The Guild.

What Kind of Homes Are in Guildwood?

If you want to live the condo lifestyle, then 10 or 20 Guildwood Parkway must be on your list of considerations. These are well-managed Tridel buildings with impeccable grounds, 24-hour security, excellent floor plans, lake views, outdoor terraces, and an abundance of amenities. These properties are geared toward an older crowd, so if this is what you’re looking for, consider Guildwood Parkway.

If you’re looking for a detached home, maybe a bungalow, because you don’t want to do the stairs in your current home, then you will have some fantastic options in The Guild. Being close to the water on a street like Sylvan Ave might be the perfect setting. If you want a larger lot with a view of the water, one of the properties on Hill Cres might be what you’re looking for. If you still prefer to live in a house but want to avoid the maintenance of a freehold property, then consider the townhouses on Livingston Road. This pocket of homes is nice and quiet, with lots of pride in ownership. It doesn’t feel like you’re in a big city. Whatever your preference and budget allow for, The Guild will have something to offer you.

Getting Around & Transportation in Guildwood

Most homeowners in The Guild drive. Parking is standard in the houses in this neighbourhood, and most houses have a garage or carport. That said, there are some public transportation options.

  • Guildwood GO Train station.
  • #12 Bus, which runs between Kennedy and Victoria Park Stations.
